The Flourishing of Denim Day: A Capsule in collaboration with el Creativo
By Shirley Alvarado del Aguila, Denim Day Director
The vulnerability of plants contrasted with the harsh times we have collectively experienced over the past year was the only way I could visualize Denim Day after 2020. The floral art designed, created, and photographed by El Creativo is an attempt to make beautiful imagery centering the undeniable beauty that survivors embody in spite of so much pain. In a short, the decision to utilize floral art and design aimed at depicting an array of feelings and emotions that flowers evoke: physically, emotionally, vulnerability, beauty, transformation, blooming, tenderness, resilience and a non-violent ideology, among others.
Creativo (cre-a-ti-vo) n. One who exceeds the limits of creativity
el Creativo is Juan Renteria, a Mexican born artist raised in Los Angeles. el Creativo embraces his culture by showing a different take on each project he envisions. His Denim Day Capsule represents the light at the end of the tunnel as we continue to fight through a pandemic, showcasing a statement of color with those who continue to stand in solidarity with survivors.
A graduate from FIDM’s Visual Communications program, Juan’s approach pays homage to the technical aspects of design while also nurturing his special interest for contemporary art, infusing both worlds to flow with his artistry. Working with design and art industry professionals has provided Juan with many opportunities for experimentation and expression.
Juan values collaboration, with a desire to uplift other Latino owned businesses focused on growth in the community. His exuberant personality can be portrayed in all of his work. From making one-of-a-kind pieces to innovative installations, el Creativo guides each collaboration in accomplishing a powerful vision.
